Your annotated bibliography will contain seven entries, organized and formatted exactly as they
would appear on a works cited page—except that where you would write “Works Cited” on the
title line under the heading, you will instead write “Annotated Bibliography.”
You will already have created these entries in the process of completing the assignments for
units 3-5 (“Evaluating Sources,” “Article Review,” and “Researched Poetry Explication”). But
here they will appear listed together, alphabetically, under a single heading.
This document will not look like a standard “Works Cited” page, however. Below each entry,
you will write a one-paragraph descriptive summary of the source. This summary should include
a description of the writer’s credentials, audience, and purpose (see Unit 1), as well as a general
outline of the writer’s argument—3-5 of his or her (or perhaps their) key points. You are not
allowed to quote the articles; summaries should be written in your own words.
A sample entry will be provided at the end of the semester, but it would be a good idea to keep
these goals in mind as we move forward from Unit 3 into Units 4 and 5. It would be prudent, for
example, to go ahead and create a draft of your annotated bibliography, with the entries for the
three reviews of Long Day’s Journey into Night. Doing so now will save you precious time
later
