Assessment 2
Assessment Type: Lesson Plan – 1,800 word response (+/- 10%) – individual assessment
Purpose: The assessment requires students to demonstrate how popular culture and new technologies can be used in teaching English through its integration into a lesson plan. The lesson plan should be inspired (at least in part) by the findings of the case study. The lesson plan should be 1-2 pages, followed by an explanation and justification for the choices made. This assessment contributes specifically to Learning Outcomes c and d.

Due Date: Friday of Week 10 – submit by 11:45PM to Turnitin via Moodle. Include a cover page.
Submission: Upload a soft copy.
Topic: A lesson plan for a topic in language learning illustrating the use technology, followed by an explanation and justification for the lesson plan.
Task Details: This assessment task will help students develop their higher level thinking skills as they use their findings from their case study to create a lesson plan for a class of students of a similar age and language level. Students will use their understanding to language learning technologies to create a lesson plan that is dynamic and engaging. The 1-2 page lesson plan must be followed by an explanation and justification for the methods used, the technologies employed and the order of activities.
Research requirements: Students need to refer to their case study findings and a minimum of 5 academic texts to support the choices they have made in their lesson plan.
Presentation: Appropriate headings and sub-headings, APA referencing, single spaced, Times New Roman 12pt, Calibri 11pt or Arial 10pt.
A personal tone may be taken. The paper must be thoroughly edited and proofread before being submitted.
STEPS:
Reread Assessment 1. Create a list of short bullet points outlining what you learned about your participants’ use of technology.
Consider these questions as part of your brainstorm:
o Are your participants comfortable or uncomfortable with technology?
o How are they using technology in their language learning? (Games, social sites, media, testing, etc.?)
o What kind of technology could help their language learning? What specific resources or website will you use or have them use in your mock lesson?
How will the findings from the first step inform, shape or inspire your lesson plan? You will need to create explicit links.
Create your lesson plan on Planboard (or a Word doc.).
First outline and then write up the explanation and justification for your lesson plan.
