This paper will discuss the role of mothers and mother-daughter relationships in Little Women, The Joy Luck Club and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

In the paper, you must use at least three additional critical resources. A critical resource must be longer than 9 pages, peer-reviewed and come from an established journal. Newspaper articles may be used but not as one of the three sources. The internet and a search engine will give you material that may not be accurate. Use the Drexel databases provided by the library as the best and safest source for these critical sources.

Develop a thesis that takes a point of view of the nature of mother-daughter relationships in fiction. For example, you might posit that ethnicity changes the nature of mother-daughter relationships or you might posit that a mother must have certain characteristics for a daughter to be successful.

There is a preliminary step to writing the paper and that is creating an annotated bibliography.

Begin the annotated bibliography by writing out a preliminary paragraph that contains your thesis. Find three sources from peer-reviewed journals or books that will help you develop your final paper. After each item in your list, give the citation of where the work will be found. Each of these citations should be in MLA format. After each listing, you write a short paragraph describing how this article will help you support your ideas in the final paper.
