Biographical Essay
A Biographical Essay is an essay where you tell a story of a person’s life. It is an opportunity for
you to do research and learn compelling facts and opinions about someone. That person could
be a historical gure and an African American author/writer or scholar. The point of the
biographical essay is to reveal who that person was and what contributions they have made to
the world.
Step one:
Choose your Subject; the person you choose to write about needs to be someone you can find
articles and books about. It has to be someone you are interested in to make it easier for you to get
excited about doing the research.
This assignment requires students to use one book and two articles as their primary sources for
this paper.
Graduate Students in this class will use one book and four articles as their primary sources for this
final paper.
