Community Selection

You are to choose a community located in South Florida. Your submission for this assignment on community selection should address each of the points listed below. Number your responses (1-5). Submit your report in the assignment space provided under the major assignments tab.
Select a community that meets the following criteria:

1. The population is between 5,000 and 15,000 people. Identify the name of your community
and the county in which it is located. Identify a recent population figure online and provide the
date of the figure you report (for example, population as of 2019), along with a link to your
source.
2. The residents are disadvantaged, marginalized, or isolated by society in some way. Provide at
least two facts supporting this conclusion, citing your sources and providing links to the
sources.
3. The community must have all the following: (1) residential areas, (2) commercial
establishments (such as stores, restaurants, or banks) and (3) social institutions (such as
churches or schools). Provide examples (by name) of commercial establishments and social
institutions.
4. Do not select a community where you previously lived or currently live. Affirm this fact.
5. Do not select a disadvantaged community in which organized community development
activities are already prominently underway, such as Penitas in Hidalgo County which features
Proyecto Desarrollo Humano. Instead, select a community that does not yet have obvious
community development initiatives. Affirm this fact.
