Research Paper Guidelines
Choose an area of corrections and write a 5-page research paper NOT including your cover page and references page. Discuss the topic in detail, including the history and current state of the topic, and its impact on individuals and society.
In other words, what are the details of your chosen area of study and its effects on system-impacted people and the public? Include an analysis of the chosen area…why do policy makers, and/or the public, support and/or have concerns about the area under study? To begin with — just research a topic and collect information.
1. Must be typed/12 pt font Times New Roman/ double spaced/normal margins
2. Use APA Format
3. Include a works cited page/bibliography (APA STYLE)
4. Must include a minimum of four (4) sources
5. Include a cover sheet with the topic centered on the page, your name, class name and date on lower right hand side
Topics that can be explored should include those from our textbook and classroom discussions: jails, prisons, Rikers Island, mass incarceration, discrimination in sentencing, community corrections, probation and parole, prisons, the prison experiences, prison management, special populations (adolescents, the elderly, women), reentry into the community, incarcerated individuals legal rights, the death penalty, mandatory minimums, prison abolition, etc.
Make sure that you locate enough information to do some solid research. Please come up with a thesis statement and then prove why you believe this thesis statement. Explain the area of corrections under study in detail. What are your recommendations?
