I had done an audit in the clinic which has to be included in the dissertation.

Number of patients-75
Age group between 25-45 yrs.
Females-39
Males-36
BMI- extremely obese-25, obese-24, overweight-26
Fruit serving daily – 10/75
Vegetable serving daily-15/75
Portion eating or Diet plate-0/75
Protein serving daily-75/75
Fatty food consumption daily-70/75
Cigarette smoking daily on an average of 3 to 5 cig-10/75 and 3 had stopped smoking past 1 yr.
Alcohol consumption-75/75 weekend socially.
Exercise regime – 2-4 days a week on an average of 20 mins a day that is only walking -10/75
Moderate exercise-13/75 exercises like gym, outdoor biking, jogging and swimming.
Social issues-55/75
Stress management like yoga-5/75
Good control of DM with HbA1C level up to 7-12/75

After this audit i had a to involve dietician for regular talks and diet plans were given, diabetic support groups were formed, exercise groups were formed and regular monitoring and follow up was advised.
I am in a process of doing the second cycle of audit which has to be included as well which I will let you know as we proceed doing the dissertation.

Reflection – when I was transferred as the resident physician to this clinic I noticed a lot of patients where will diabetic complications and uncontrolled diabetes in spite of medication, the main reason to this was there was no importance gives to healthy life style earlier. It was never talked about or being counseled or followed by the patients. I realized this with each and every consultation I had. It was very challenging to encourage patients and make them realize of the benefits as they were very resistant to leave there old habits, forming a support whatsapp group as they didn’t want to be part of the group, didn’t want to meet the dietician . It was very draining physically and emotionally to me trying to get their act together.
