Proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia

Iran – Saudi Arabia Proxy War, Roots and Causes and its Effects on International Security. Discussing and
comparing Neo- Realism and Constructivism with their famous scholars. For example Wendt (constructivist)
and Waltz (neo- realist). Some scholars, believe that is all about gaining power. In the Neo- Realism
approach, states seek to maximize their power and security and that will explain their behavior including
their foregn policy. On the other hand, some scholars believe that identity and ideology is the main reason for
these kinds of conflicts. In Constructivism approach , non-material factors are very important to explain the
international relations and states foregn policies. This paper will explain the differences between these
approaches and will try to answer this question, what are the roots and causes of the proxy war between Iran
and Saudi Arabia in the region. The paper stays in the middle of these two approaches and believes although
both of them and combination of these approaches are relevant, but more is about neo-realism. With
explaining the Nature of Conflict, identity politics, historic background (Sunni vs Shia), Comparing Iran and
Saudi Arabia Foreign Policy, especially after Iranian Revolution in 1979 and case studies: Iraq, Syria,
Yemen, Bahrain.
