Weekly Assessment 4: Formal Report (15%)
Based on the general understanding of reports as described in the lesson on Reports (ch.13, blue textbook) and the lesson on Formal Report (presentation on Moodle), the students will prepare a Formal Report based on the following scenario:
You are the manager of a major retail company in Kuwait. Your business has been profitable for a while, but now, due to the COVID19 pandemic, things have been brought to a sudden halt. As you expect the curfew to lift by the end of this month, you are preparing to restart your business. But before this, the company management wants to see a formal report on the state of affairs of the company including, but not limited to:
– losses,
– recovery time and strategies,
– new ideas how to approach the market,
– improved commercial and marketing approach.
You also have to prepare at least two visuals of your choice that fit a part of the report you want to emphasize. These may include tables, graphs, charts, diagrams, or any other appropriate visual that corresponds to the purpose described in the diagram.
As for the format of the document, the students are expected to have the following categories: Cover page, Introduction (background, purpose, and scope), Discussion, Recommendation, and References.
There is no word limit for this Report, but, as always try to be as specific with details as possible.
Useful tips: brainstorm a company in which you can see yourself working. Think about the style of work (store selling, online selling or a combination), type(s) of merchandise, number of stores and employees, profit margin, and anything else you think it is useful to include whenever you think about a successful company.
