Introductions and conclusions are integral to the structure of speechmaking. Introductions serve as a way to help your audience understand the message you are about to send to them. In order to be successful your introduction must be clear and understood.
Remember the components of an introduction:
1. Attention Getter,
2. Background,
(Background/Justification should include a source and evidence)
3. Justification,
4. Thesis Statement,
and 5. Preview Statement.
Components of a conclusion
1. Acknowledge you are concluding
2. Restate preview statement
3. Link back to attention getter
You are starting the beginning and ending of your final speech with this activity so choose your topic carefully. You can choose either informative or persuasive and should check the assignment details in Content under “Final Speech Assignment” in order to make that choice.
Once you have decided on a type of speech you can begin writing the introduction and conclusion of your speech.
You MUST label the components as you use them and upload the assignment as a word document. Length is ultimately up to you but keep in mind that an introduction generally lasts 30 sec to 1 min so that should be reflective in the assignment.
