In Week 01, you completed an Imel literature review chart on six articles. The Imel chart helps to quickly compare articles and identify gaps in the literature where you may want to focus your project. However, the following critique worksheets in Google Documents will really help you systematically dissect the research presented in the articles to help you identify their relative strengths and weaknesses:
• (Links to an external site.)Worksheet 3.2: Reliability/Validity Checklist for Quantitative Studies (Links to an external site.)
• (Links to an external site.)Worksheet 3.3: Literature Critique Checklist for Qualitative Studies (Links to an external site.)
Critiquing articles will prepare you to be a much more educated consumer of research literature. This is especially important to your clinical practice when you’re evaluating new studies, counseling approaches, techniques, or scientific discoveries.
This week, you will select three of the six articles and complete a critique for each using either Worksheet 3.2 (for quantitative studies) or Worksheet 3.3 (for qualitative studies). Ultimately, you will submit three worksheets: one for each of the three articles you chose to review. If your original search yielded both quantitative and qualitative studies, please select one of each to review. The third one is your choice.
