ELEMENTS OF A NARRATIVE CASE CONCEPTULIZATION
•Emphasize client strengths, supports and abilities
•Name problem outside person using metaphor or client’s language (externalize problem)
•Explore history in the context of learning what effects the problem has had on client and relationships
•Identify a history of the person’s ability to “resist” (not give in to) the problem
•Discuss the client’s influence over the problem (how have they made positive changes to fight the problem)
•Use of culturally relevant concepts and indigenous meaning making
•Include client’s feelings/thoughts about effects of problem
•Identify client’s values that underlie preferred ways of living
•Speak to client’s intentions for changing life in positive ways
