Case Study Analysis

The term paper is a series of four essays, using the cases (below) as subject material. Students will be evaluated based on (a) knowledge of Strategy and the main themes / vocabulary of the course, (b) specific knowledge of each of the cases, (c) creativity and originality, (d) writing and composition style/quality, and (e) alignment with the format guidelines.

Essay 1 – Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions (2 pages, single spaced) Essay 2 – AWAY: Scaling a DTC Travel Brand (2 pages, single spaced)
Essay 3 – Space X, Economies of Scale, and a Revolution in Space Access (2 pages, single spaced) Essay 4 – Epic Games (2 pages, single spaced)
Format Guidelines: 8 pages, single spaced, Times New Roman font, 12-point font, 1-inch margins all around

Write an original series of essays / analyses of the four strategy cases. There are literally thousands of topics to address, so do not try to include everything. Focus on things that you believe are relevant / applicable to our study of strategic management in a contemporary, global context. Focus on what is interesting to you. Be original.

• Show that you have immersed yourself in the material; and show that you have the capacity to think independently, communicate effectively, and synthesize information/ideas with originality.
• Do NOT just summarize the cases. Write a series of original essays about Strategy.
• Do NOT cut-and-paste content from the cases or core readings. If you quote a passage from a case or core reading, then keep it brief and directly relevant to the thesis. Use case quotes only sparingly.
• Look for opportunities to connect the details of each case to the main themes and vocabulary of the course. Use the core readings as a “desk reference” of Strategy:
o Introduction to Strategy
o Industry Analysis
o Corporate Strategy
o Competitive and Cooperative Dynamics
• Have a point of view and have a thesis. But also minimize (eliminate) the use of the 1st person.
• Be creative with the title of each essay; titles can be informative, descriptive, and even humorous or satirical. Use the title (single line titles only) to introduce the essay and its main themes.
• Edit yourself down to exactly 2 pages for each essay, for a total of 8 pages. Make the adjustments to your composition and writing style to achieve this objective.
• This is NOT a research paper. There is no need for a Bibliography or Works Cited page. The only materials you need are the 4 cases and the various core readings. Do NOT borrow from outside sources.
• Use the language and frameworks of Strategy; write a Strategy paper.
• This is a graded assignment (expected class average = B+)
• Submit your digital paper in the form of a Microsoft Word document.
