Essay Question Prompt:
1) As a national movement, Zionism has been said to be pessimistic (in its diagnosis of the Diaspora’s ills)
and utopian (in its proposed cure for these ills). In your view, is Zionism one, both, or neither of these?
-Please argue that zionism is both pessimistic and optimistic.
It’s pessimistic for how zionism views jews coming from Europe and how it views them. It’s optimistic in
how they view the future of Israel and this can be supported with the idea of the New Jew.
