New Member State Bojonia, has just implemented a new law on Free Movement and Residence Rights
which it believes to be in compliance with EU law.
However, several citizens from other EU states have encountered issues with the legislation when seeking
to exercise free movement rights under EU Law:
Harry, a UK citizen who has worked in Bojonia for a year, has been asked to attend his local police station
each week to report his ongoing presence in the Member State. As Harry works as a telephone engineer,
his work takes him all over Bojonia and he is finding it difficult to comply with this request.
Hermione is a French citizen who has taught in Bojonia for many years. She has been told that her mother
Ginny, who now needs assistance with her physical needs and who is a wealthy retiree, will not be able to
join her, as Bojonia does not extend residence rights to retired non-nationals who have not worked in
Bojonia.
Harry’s brother Ron, who worked in Bojonia for 3 months, lost his job as a fitness instructor when the
gym where he worked, went out of business. He has been told that he must now leave Bojonia as he is no
longer in a position to pay taxes.
Advise Harry, Hermione, Ginny and Ron as to their rights under EU law.
