The Argumentative Essay is a genre of writing that requires the student to investigate a topic: collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; establish a position on the topic in a concise manner. The sources are already provided, add ons are acceptable.
The structure:
1. A clear, concise, and defined thesis statement that occurs no later than the start of the second paragraph. Be sure to include its exigence: why we should care about this topic.
2. Body paragraphs, each including some form of evidence. Every paragraph.
3. Logical transitions between introduction, body, conclusion that follow one idea.
